Along the Path

Looking for a full body workout that simultaneously engages the mind? Aikido is not just self defense but it is a great way to get and stay fit, build flexibility, and connect the mind and body.

Learning a martial art like Aikido Kokikai® is often described as climbing a mountain, which in many ways bears some truth. But what is often not said is what you find along that path. You find community, friends, family with those making the trek with you. With each step you become healthier not only physically but mentally and spiritually.

Take that first step at Aikido Kokikai of Rochester. Learn more at aikidorochester.com

Travels

One of the few highlights of work travel is that occasionally it brings me the opportunity to practice with one of our sister dojos.  I have been welcomed into many dojo across the country.   Tonight I had my first practice at our dojo in Ellicott City, Maryland.  Not only were they welcoming, they all rearranged their schedules to hold class an hour early so that I had plenty of time to catch my flight afterwards.   Thank you to Brian Kantsiper Sensei and Louis Ibarra Sensei for being such great hosts and sharing your insights.  It was a pleasure and I hope my travels take me back there again.

If you live in the Ellicott City area, I highly recommend you check out their dojo.

Post-Thanksgiving Day Aikido Kokikai Workshop

Aikido Kokikai Workshop

When: Saturday, November 30, 2013 (Saturday after Thanksgiving Day)
Where: Aikido Kokikai of Rochester Dojo
Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Enjoy a fun filled morning of aikido!

Avoid the malls and crowds.  Work off Thanksgiving Day dinner.

Black belt members of Kokikai dojos in the region will demonstrate principles and techniques of Kokikai Aikido from their unique perspective.
Take advantage of the opportunity to learn from and train with black belt aikidoka that do not regularly teach as well as fellow students with whom you do not regularly practice.

Learn Kokikai Aikido techniques that you may not always see from your regular instructors or variations that nonetheless still demonstrate the principles of Kokikai Aikido.

Please bring your Jo and Bokken if you have them.  Just in case.

This event is open to all dojo members.

We are accepting a suggested minimum $5 donation that will go towards Sensei's 40th Anniversary celebration at the next winter camp.

Summer Camp Tests

We had a wonderful time at Summer Camp - Sensei was amazing. Cyndi Lovejoy tested for second kyu and Mark Panek tested for first kyu. They both continued the Rochester tradition of looking great.

We will be celebrating Mark's test on Thursday night during 7 pm class. Cyndi is off on vacation/family reunion this week so we will catch her when she returns.

Hope to see everyone this weekend for Sensei's visit to Rochester. Saturday classes at 10:15 and 1:30. Sunday class is over at Eastern Sky at 10:00 am.
